Oakland 2 Remodeling
Oakland, California
This residence was built in the wooded Montclair area of Oakland in the 1930s. It is a Tudor/Craftsman style house that had been remodeled several times. The Owners wanted to convert the non-code compliant basement area into habitable space that worked with the style of the existing house.
The design involved new foundation and floor slab work in order to achieve allowable ceiling heights as well as a column-free space. The remodeled basement is now a family area accommodating a play area for the family’s two young sons as well as a multi-media center.
