Evans Hall
New Rooftop Courtyard
University of California, Berkeley
Evans Hall at UC Berkeley was designed by Gardner Dailey and constructed in 1971. The building is home to the University’s Economics, Mathematics and Statistics Departments. Evans Hall has gone through many renovations and remodelings, some of which have involved seismic upgrades, water damage and improvements to the buildings aesthetics.
This is an example of small project design that Stein Architect has done for UC Berkeley many times over the years. Along with Dillingham Associates, Landscape Architects, we addressed aesthetics, accessibility and fire exiting issues at the existing rooftop courtyard. A design program involving overhead “sails” for sun shading, new colors to brighten up the exterior building walls, new pavers over an innovative rooftop/courtyard waterproofing system, accessible exit doors and new area lighting.
